We understand how the corporate office life can get sometimes. Dr Thelma Polyviou, our founder comes from the academic world where being stuck on a desk for hours, writing articles for scientific journals, was day to day life.

 

Adriana Blanco, our Spinning Instructor comes from the corporate world of accounting, having worked for 10 years in an auditory firm before changing her career path into the world of sports. Our Yoga Instructor Judit is currently working in hotel marketing and often spends long hours in front of her computer.


We know how fuzzy the brain can get when sitting on your office chair for hours and how innovative ideas stop coming up or how you don’t feel productive anymore but have to keep going to 17:30 pm.

 

You start feeling tightness throughout the neck muscles that can additionally lead to pain/reduced mobility in the neck, headaches, blurred vision and general mental fatigue. And if that’s not enough, you don’t have time or to finish work and head to a yoga/pilates class or hit the gym!

CONCENTRATION MEDITATION
Concentration meditation involves focusing on a single point. This could entail following the breath, repeating a single word or mantra, staring at a candle flame, listening to a repetitive gong, or counting beads on a mala. Since focusing the mind is challenging, a beginner might meditate for only a few minutes and then work up to longer durations.

 

NUTRITION TALKS

MINDFULNESS MEDITATION
Mindfulness meditation encourages the practitioner to observe wandering thoughts as they drift through the mind. The intention is not to get involved with the thoughts or to judge them, but simply to be aware of each mental note as it arises.

OUR COORPORATE YOGA TEACHERS

I was exposed to yoga since childhood and started to practice intensively five years ago. Following my Masters Degree in Sociology and Anthropology in Paris and New York, I travelled taking classes in Paris, San Francisco. Following my travels I settled in Barcelona and completed the Yoga Teacher Trainning (200 RYT) with Amelie Strecker.
For many years, I had been searching for my «passion», something that I could connect on a deeper level with. Yoga helped me to understand that I have all the strength inside me, helping me to focus, find more happiness and inner peace and thus became my passion. I have practiced with different teachers, always learning more by taking part in retreats and workshops. I just came back from China where I was begun to practice Tai Chi kung Fu Fan. Additionaly, the for the past 3 years I have been learning Shadow Yoga. 
I have 4 years experience in teaching Hatha-Vinyasa Yoga – In Spain, France and China- a dinamic style where movment and breath are sincronized to go from ona asana (position) to another, looking for both strengh and flexibility. Through a powerful Hatha-Vinyasa practice, my goal is to help my students to find balance, starting with the body to get to deeper layers.

My name is Amanda or as some of my close friends call me, Mana. My yoga journey began in 2013. It took a few months of trying many different styles of yoga, until I found the Rocket. After my first session, I was in love with the dynamic practice and started going to the studio almost everyday. Shortly after, I grew bored with my office job in the US and decided to move my life to Barcelona, to do a Masters program in Design Management. It was also here, where I met my friend and decided to start the project of creating yoga clothes called Shambhala Barcelona together. I also continued with my Rocket yoga practice in the city and have completed two 50hr-Rocket Vinyasa YTT in Barcelona since 2014. In 2015, I journeyed to India and completed another Hatha YTT in Rishikesh, learning more about the origins and philosophy of yoga.
Yoga has changed my life, physically and mentally. It’s not just a physical practice, but a way of life. These days I practice Mysore Ashtanga in the mornings and continue to teach Rocket Yoga in the night. In the last years I have also opened my practices to AcroYoga and Acrobatics. My passion for teaching comes from seeing the progression of my students. Seeing them achieve things that they couldn’t believe they could do, warms my heart. Witnessing how yoga changes lives is so beautiful, it gives me so much satisfaction to continue sharing my knowledge as a teacher and continue learning more knowledge as a student.

I have always been passionate about the body and what it is capable of, but it was not until 2010 that i had the opportunity to undertake my first Hatha Yoga class. I took my first Yoga course at the Yoga Moksha Center in Gracia, Barcelona in 2010 where i was introduced to Yoga Kundalini, a practice focused on balancing the energy levels of the body. Upon completion of my course, I moved to Italy where I graduated in Arabic Language and Islamic studies. In Italy I had the opportunity to practice for 4 years in the Soham Yoga Center of Pescara under the guidance of Daniel Svitcoy. During these 4 years I had the opportunity to practice Ashtanga Yoga under the guidance of Luisa D'Intino. Despite the depth of knowledge that Ashtanga provided me with I decided that my body needed something different.
I therefore continued to dedicate myself to Hatha Yoga, always being aware that beyond flexibility it is very important to strengthen the muscles and to practice energetic activities to take care of body and mind completely.
In 2014 I completed my 200h Hatha Yoga training at the One Love Yoga Shala center in Bielefeld under the guidance of Bernadette Krampe, where I taught for 8 months.
In the same year I began to deepen the technique of Vipassana meditation in Lutirano in Tuscany, Italy, which I continue to maintain as my practice of meditation every day.
In 2015 I completed a Yoga training as a hormonal therapy in Barcelona under the guidance of Brigitte Simone Hefti and in the same year taught Yoga in Barcelona. By now I'm continuing my education attending to international workshops. I consider myself a Yoga practitioner and am glad to have the opportunity from time to time to share what I have learned so far with other practitioners.

OUR EXPERT NUTRITIONIST & SPORT PHYSIOLOGIST

I am Thelma, the creator of The Spinning Yogis. I am a Nutritionist by degree with a Masters in Clinical Nutrition. I have always been interested in nutritional health and always had many questions going on in my head: Which is the best way to eat healthy? What happens when a marathon runner competes in high temperatures? How often do we need to hydrate? And many more! That is why I went down the road of research and completed my PhD in Sports Nutrition and Exercise Physiology, at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. Following the completion of my PhD, I continued working as a researcher at the University and worked to a great extent with elite athletes as well as in projects investigating supplements and antioxidants and their effect on glucose tolerance, obesity and their relationship with exercise i.e. how exercise enhances their absorption. There was a point in my life that it only seemed the logical next step to move away from academic research and transfer all my knowledge and experiences to the real world. Since I was always passionate about Spinning and Yoga, I decided to combine them with my knowledge in Nutrition and Physiology, offering a holistic experience to our clients.
